Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Therapy at The Sacred Way

Hello, I’m Dr. Melinda Pillsbury Arnold. I’ve spent decades helping people heal from emotional pain, trauma, and deep personal loss. At The Sacred Way, I offer a gentle, client-centered approach to healing—one that meets you where you are and helps you find your way back to yourself.

If you’ve experienced something traumatic and still feel the effects in your body, thoughts, or daily life, you’re not alone. Whether the trauma was recent or happened years ago, posttraumatic stress can quietly shape how you think, feel, and even how you connect with others. But healing can happen—and you don’t have to go through it by yourself.

What Is Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Therapy?

Posttraumatic stress disorder therapy is support for people who have experienced intense or overwhelming events. This might include abuse, assault, accidents, war, loss, or ongoing emotional neglect. PTSD isn’t only in your thoughts—it also lives in your body and nervous system. That’s why a thoughtful, whole-person approach matters so much.

My therapy style gently helps you process what happened, without forcing you to relive it. I combine talk therapy, somatic techniques (which involve body awareness), guided relaxation, and sometimes creative or energy-based work—depending on what feels right for you.

Why This Work Matters

According to a source, about 6% of adults in the U.S. will experience PTSD at some point in their lives, and women are twice as likely to be affected. What’s more, many people carry the symptoms for years without knowing they’re living with posttraumatic stress. That might look like:

  • Constant anxiety or fear

  • Trouble sleeping or relaxing

  • Flashbacks or disturbing memories

  • Avoidance of certain people, places, or topics

  • Feeling numb or disconnected from yourself or others

You may not even realize how much the past is still shaping your present. That’s when therapy can step in and help ease the burden.

What a Session Looks Like

Each session is guided by your comfort and readiness. There’s no rushing, no pressure to say or do anything you’re not ready for. Some sessions involve talking, others might focus more on calming the body or building emotional safety.

We’ll work together to gently shift out of survival mode and into a space where you can feel safe again—in your body, in your mind, and in your life.
